I Lost The Bet, Or Did I?

Monday, February 27, 2012

It began as an incredible night. We'd had dinner with one of my favorite couples ever and afterward decided on a moments notice to stop in at cozy, little place for dessert.

While we were there the conversation came up about me sleeping with a pillow over my head with only my nose showing. Ya know, I can't breathe in already breathed air, that's just gross. So I leave a space for fresh, clean air to circulate about my nostrils.

Jeff said he bet if I posted it on Facebook and asked people what they did I'd be the only one that has that habit. (I wasn't sure whether to put "has," or "had," in that sentence, but my daughter with a degree from U of O assures me it should be has. I really don't know but I went with her suggestion).

So I posted the question while we were still in the car. Since I have a terrible time with short term memory loss I knew if I didn't post it then I'd forget.

So I posted it and here's what I got:

So obviously I AM a freak, with a couple of others, but I OVERWHELMINGLY lost!

When Jeff saw the answers he looked at me and said, "Now you have to pay up on the bet."

I looked at him and asked, "What did we bet?" See my short term memory loss kicking in.

"Come on, you remember what we bet!"

"No, what did we bet?" By this time I was in a cold sweat. I couldn't remember.

"Jeff, we didn't have a bet!"

"Yes, we did have a bet."

I looked at him in the eye and there it was. One of his eyebrows went up. It's a sure sign he's lying!

Almost in tears I yelled out, "It's NOT nice to screw with someone that has short term memory loss!"

Then he said, "Yeah, but you're still a freak!"

Wow, I have to admit diva that it is quite the unique way to sleep (I know I would be too afraid to sleep that way in case I stopped breathing but if you do it with no issues then I don't see the problem. Sorry to hear you lost the bet though if you did make it, I'm sure some people are out there who do the same thing as you when sleeping!

Bear sleeps with his head on the pillow but the blankets over his head (except for an air hole). Does that count?

Diva, it's just too fun to mess with you.... ;)

I don't do that every night but I have done it. Hubby does the same thing when he has a migraine. So I guess we are freaks as well.

I only sleep with my head under the blanket if there's a light on.

...and actually, I kind of want to know what betting terms he would have made up on the spot, haha!

I sleep that exact same way. I can't sleep any othe way. You are perfectly normal and he isvthe freak.

I almost do what you do. The blankets are pulled up almost over my head but gotta breath so my face is out.
You're not a total freak, just mostly freaky. Lol!

I never heard of that but I am sure we all have some very strange habits. I had a college roommate who slept with a washcloth on either side of her face.

I still want to know what you had to give up...LOL I have to sleep without covers over my head for the same reason you stick your nose out..I have to have fresh air... not under cover air

Um, angel shrout, we're not freaks; we're people who know how to survive in cold climates.

Yeah; that's it. Cold climates. Minnesota, Canada, Alaska. You know.

Count another freak in! I do the exact same thing on the rare occasion that hubby & I are in the same bed at the same time, because hubby snores so freaking loud and leaves his light on!! :)

The Bipolar Diva February 27, 2012 10:00 PM

Yea! There are more of me out there than I originally thought! On one hand I block out the light and the noise with the pillow and on the other hand for some strange reason it makes me feel secure and safe. Weird, I know. Oh well, the life of a Bipolar Diva.

I notice you spelled 'you're' right while the ignoramus spelled it 'your'.
Tell him learn the language or get out of the country.

Ninja Kitty Extraordinaire February 28, 2012 7:35 AM

I totally do that - and for the same reason!!! Ah yes, and Jeff? I'm thinking it's time to fight fire with fire - pull a "Gaslight" on him (get as many people in on the shenanagins as possible for extra effect)! That's how I handle my Big Bag of Man Candy when he toys with my head and/or short term memory loss (though I have memory loss of the long term variety as well... and occasionally I forget I was playing a prank on him in the first place.... but I digress...)!

Tami February 28, 2012 9:49 AM

If it makes you feel better, I sleep with the pillow over my head too.

MichaelHarley February 28, 2012 10:14 AM

So what's wrong with being a freak??? :-P

Monica February 28, 2012 12:58 PM

Oh my gosh! This story is awesome!

Mad Mind February 28, 2012 3:11 PM

Yeah, I can't do that either. I have claustrophobia so the idea that a pillow is over my head......okay breathing....breathing.....yeah.

Diva,
You are soooooooooo weird and I love ya.
Are We On Facebook together yet? I want to become part of the fun, babe.

Xxxx

Mary@GigglesandGuns February 28, 2012 4:46 PM

Not with a pillow but I cover all the way up with my blankets leaving only m nose and mouth exposed.
Count me among the odd :0)

Susie March 12, 2012 3:40 PM

I sleep with the covers over my head with just my face exposed (you're correct, no breathing already breathed air). Mine mostly has to do with being cold all the time, but it's also comforting. Hubby calls it my cocoon.
