The Gun Was Touching Her Skull

Monday, April 2, 2012

If you're not one of my Facebook friends you probably don't know what happened last night about 8:30.

I answered the phone about 9:15 to a hysterical, sobbing, incoherent daughter, The Bipolar Princess. It took me nearly a half hour to forty five minutes to figure out what had happened. I knew it was serious.

The thoughts running through my head were horrible thoughts of one of her kids being killed, or her husband dying. I never would have imagined in a million years what had really taken place.

Karli was at the bank filling out a deposit slip when there was a knock on her window. She thought it was the police. She looked up to see two masked men with guns pointed directly at her.

She went to put her car in reverse and one of the men shot into the air and screamed, "You don't think I'll kill you bitch?"

He told her to open her window. As she cracked it open he shoved his gun through the window and into her skull.

My daughter was robbed at gunpoint as if she hasn't been through enough in her 30 years....rape, stalking, having a son die and having another son sexually molested by her ex husband plus having to deal with the insidious disorder with the name of Bipolar I.

Now she has one  more terror to add to her list of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

My. Daughter. Was. Almost. Murdered.

She couldn't identify the men, only that they had Mexican accents.

Today she's been pretty well medicated and much calmer due to the amount of medication she's on.  I cannot begin to tell you the out pouring of support she's received. The money the men took was all the money my daughter's family had until the next pay day and they had no groceries or gasoline.

A friend of  mine, an angel, sent her a check for every penny that had been taken, my brother sent her some money as did my son and daughter in law, and when Jakob came home from school he was carrying with him a gift card to a grocery store here in town.

Not only am I angry she was robbed, I'm angry she was there. Does that make me a terrible parent? I'm also angry that everyone's telling her what she should have done.

The truth is that you have no idea what to do when you're in that situation, you can't think, you can't form a plan. You can only comply.

She complied and she's alive, traumatized, but alive. My daughter is alive.

In case any of you are thinking this is a case against the second amendment, it's not. Guns did not rob my daughter. Illegal aliens did, said the police. If more people were armed fewer people would chance coming up on someone that could kill them first. What's the saying? Oh yes, "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."

Criminals don't care what the laws are, they'll find ways to get guns regardless. Police don't carry guns to protect you, they carry them to protect themselves. Self defense is our best defense.

I do realize that my daughter would have had no choice had she been armed in this instance with two men with guns pointed at her. But if they thought she could have been armed it would have never happened.

Criminals prey upon people they think are defenseless whether it be by gun, by knife, tire iron, or their hands. It's not the gun, it the criminal.

But bottom line is my daughter is alive.

HOly shit Diva I missed all of that. Now when they find them, and they will find them , do you need me to come and run interference as we show them what it's like to have a gun to their skull?? Do I get to put the iron rod through their penis and chain them to the floor of the abandoned house that we set aflame, handing them a rusty saw?? Cut it off or burn?? Ya know there is a lot of land in this part of KY and we still carry guns and use them.. just saying..

Kelley April 2, 2012 at 10:23 PM

Oh, no!! That is terrible!! I am so, so relieved that your daughter is okay, but I know she is so traumatized. I hate that she has been through so much already. How awful! I watch "I Survived" all the time. So many people out there do not care about life at all. It is so sad. So grateful she is alive. I will be praying for her!

The Bipolar Diva April 2, 2012 at 10:24 PM

Thank you Kelley, that means more to me than I can say.

ShelliBean April 2, 2012 at 10:30 PM

She did exactly what she should have done...given them what they wanted so they would leave her alone. I'm so proud of her for having her wits about her to just listen and comply. Being robbed is one of the scariest things and until someone has been through it, they can't say what should have or could have been done. I am so thankful that she's okay.

The Bipolar Diva April 2, 2012 at 10:36 PM

Thanks my little tech genius. I love you.

Karli April 2, 2012 at 10:53 PM

Probably shouldn't have read this. At least, I'm sleeping with all my kids tonight and a big tough vet. I'm going to be ok, I know I will.

Charlotte April 2, 2012 at 11:10 PM

Oh, my god. I am so terribly sorry to hear this happened to your daughter! That is incredibly scary and I can't imagine how anyone would tell her how to act in a situation like the one you described. Best, BEST wishes to her and hope they find the men who committed this awful crime.

I am so glad she is okay, momma.

XOXO

Nolie April 2, 2012 at 11:10 PM

Guns don't kill people. People kill people. And this is coming from a Canadian. So I don't care about your amendments.

I am so glad she is ok. She has been through so much. I one day want to meet you both and give you both gigantic hugs.

The Bipolar Diva April 2, 2012 at 11:12 PM

Karli, you should be sleeping with your mother!

The Bipolar Diva April 2, 2012 at 11:12 PM

Nolie; I love you, but you already knew that!

The Bipolar Diva April 2, 2012 at 11:13 PM

Charlotte; thank you so very much!

Kelly April 2, 2012 at 11:32 PM

Thank the Lord that Karli made it through that alive. I can't even imagine. Your poor girl has been through enough to last 10 lifetimes :/

*hugs*

xoxo

The Bipolar Diva April 2, 2012 at 11:37 PM

Thank you Kelly, you'd think enough would be enough right?

YeamieWaffles April 3, 2012 at 1:41 AM

I'm so sorry to hear about this Diva, I'm seriously thinking about your family right now, I hope they catch these fucking idiots who did this, something happening like this to your innocent daughter who was just going about her day job sickens me to my core.

crowbloke April 3, 2012 at 2:05 AM

" She complied and she's alive, traumatized, but alive. My daughter is alive. "

these words say it all.
....so glad she`s ok.

Andrea L April 3, 2012 at 3:33 AM

OMG...honestly don't even know what to say to this! I can't imagine what she went through, and will continue to go through! Thank God she is alive, and my prayers are with her as she deals with this....

Jennifer Kay April 3, 2012 at 4:46 AM

Good Lord I wouldn't care one bit about the money just that she's alive, like you said.

That girl has a black cloud following her around, jeez!

So happy you were able to report she's okay (physically).

MarkD60 April 3, 2012 at 5:11 AM

Damn that is stressful. If it was you instead of her, you woulda shot them.

Haven April 3, 2012 at 5:28 AM

Oh my gosh! That's so terrible. My thoughts and hopes are with you and your daughter.

Rob-bear April 3, 2012 at 5:39 AM

OH Diva! This is just so, so awful!

I'm glad at least that Karli is alive! It just so beats the alternative.

Blessings and Bear hugs to all of you!

Jamie April 3, 2012 at 7:00 AM

My sister was in a similar situation, Teri. I know the dreams ( nightmares) will evade her sleeping moments for a long time to come.
The anger will set it too.
A process, an unfair one because she was at the wrong place at the wrong time. :-(

But.. she is alive. Thanks to the simple fact that she complied. Even in the moment of terror she had the ability to think.
Strength.
She has it, given all she's been through.

xxoo
Hugs to her, hard ones.

britt April 3, 2012 at 7:55 AM

I would like to help, please email me brittbrien @ yahoo.com so I can get some info to send something! Your family is in my thoughts

Laraine Eddington April 3, 2012 at 11:58 AM

Here's a prayer for some peaceful reassurance for you and your daughter. I'm so sorry she had to go through this

Laraine Eddington April 3, 2012 at 12:01 PM

Here's a prayer for peace to return to you and your daughter. I'm so sorry you had to go through this.

Mad Mind April 3, 2012 at 1:03 PM

She did what she should have done. The only time I would have advised her to fight would have been if they had tried to get in her car or take her from it. Never let them take you from the initial scene.

I'm so happy that she's still with us and that there may be some justice with the CI's.

Who would say she wasn't supposed to be there? Really? It's an ATM! Aren't people supposed to be there?

Emmy April 3, 2012 at 1:23 PM

I am so so sorry this happened. And yes, I think your daughter did do the right thing, it sounds like she tried to drive away but with what they said, much better her things than her life but still 150% awful. So glad there were so many that were able to help her.

Lynda Dishner April 3, 2012 at 4:24 PM

I agree with you. . . I am so sorry for your daughter, you and all your family and hers. May God protect and bless all of you. Blessings Lynda

Karen Mortensen April 3, 2012 at 7:07 PM

Oh my. I am so sorry this happened but am so glad she is alive. It is so nice that so many people are helping them. All the best.

Rachel Marie April 3, 2012 at 7:16 PM

She did exactly what most would do in a situation like that. I am sorry this is happening to your family, Diva. My thoughts and prayers go out that the police find those bastards who have this. It seems your daughter is very blessed to have the people she does in her life, and I am glad people are reaching out to her with kindness. the happily ever after project

The Bipolar Diva April 3, 2012 at 9:05 PM

you all are awesome. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Danielle April 3, 2012 at 11:02 PM

Thank God she's safe. I don't know why these things happen, but I agree with others who wrote that your daughter did the right thing. She's developed some survival skills and resilience through the challenges and tragedies she's been through. They might have helped save her life.

Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell April 4, 2012 at 8:17 AM

Oh my sweet heavens, I'm so grateful she's alive, so very grateful. Like you said, that's the bottom line.

jen April 4, 2012 at 1:39 PM

We had an occurrence just like this in the valley last night. The perp was beating on the car window in a drive-thru, but the driver drew a gun and killed the guy. The driver called 911, stayed on the scene till police arrived. Dead perp. No charges filed.
What is up with this world? Hugs and a prayer you and your daughter's way today, Teri.

Copyboy April 4, 2012 at 1:59 PM

Sorry, as soon as I read the beginning I had to skim to the end to see if she was ok. Thank heavens she is.

Saracide April 4, 2012 at 10:04 PM

I'm glad she is okay.. but holy shit. That is not something anyone needs to go through, especially with the trials she already has going on in her life. I'm sorry that people have to stoop so low as to threaten another person's life.. and I'm sorry it happened to her..
Big hugs and she is in my thoughts. I hope she is doing well considering all that has been going on.

Miss C April 4, 2012 at 10:59 PM

Thank goodness your daughter is safe! As you said She is Alive and that is the most important thing.

Kimberly April 5, 2012 at 6:01 AM

This is so terrible. Know that I am thinking and sending so much strength her way. What a vicious thing to happen. Gah I can't even imagine how she feels. So
Much love her way.

Babes Mami April 6, 2012 at 10:17 AM

I saw something bad had happened but didn't catch up on what. I'm so glad that everyone stepped in and that she is alive, not okay but alive. I hope she is better soon, can't even imagine the trauma.

KansasSunflower April 6, 2012 at 10:23 AM

Wow, you hear about these things but you never think they would happen to anyone you know! I'm so very very glad that Karli is okay, and know that it must be very difficult to deal with right now! My prayers are with her!

Tere April 9, 2012 at 8:03 AM

Oh my God. I am so sorry. Glad she is okay. When I read the title, I thought she had done something to herself. I worry about both of you and my thoughts and prayers are with the two of you. Keep the faith and God will look after you.

High Heeled Life April 9, 2012 at 8:39 AM

I am speechless!! Your sweet baby girl (no matter how old she will always be your baby girl)... Thank the heavens she is alive!! and yes, until in that position no one will ever know for certain how they would or would not react.

It is wonderful to read that so many people stepped up to help. She has gone through and unfortunately continues to be tested and challenged; but thankfully there is an army of support and love for her!! She is destined to make the world a much better place, I just feel it!! Blessings xo HHL
